1st year master's student Shuu Kato received the NEDO Award at QCP Startup Pitch 2025!

1st year master's student Shuu Kato gave a pitch at QCP Startup Pitch 2025 held on October 1, 2025, and received the NEDO Award for his highly evaluated presentation. This is a wonderful result of his continuous effort—congratulations!



A study camp on machine learning was held at the TUS Seminar House!

A four-day study camp on machine learning was held at the Tokyo University of Science Seminar House. Through lectures and discussions, lab members deepened their understanding of machine learning and strengthened relationships among members. It was a productive and enjoyable camp for all participants.

18 students presented at ROOB2025!

On September 7, 2025, 10 master’s and 8 undergraduate students from Arai Laboratory presented their posters at the 9th Workshop of Robotics Ongoing Breakthroughs (ROOB2025), held at the TUS Katsushika Campus. It was the first academic presentation experience for many undergraduates, providing valuable learning opportunities for future research.



The Summer Open Campus was held!

The Summer Open Campus was held, featuring a demonstration of the “Automatic Noodle Cooking System ver.4,” which will be showcased at the upcoming university festival. Visitors also enjoyed lab tours and research introductions, gaining insight into the atmosphere and research focus of the laboratory. Thank you to everyone who attended!

Members of Arai Laboratory appeared in a Tokyo University of Science promotional video and interview. The video showcased a demonstration of the automatic noodle cooking system, and students discussed their research and laboratory activities during the interview.

2nd year master's student Ginga Kennis received the JSME Young Excellent Presentation Fellow Award for his presentation at ROBOMECH2024 titled “Integrated Path and Observation Planning for Handling Objects with Diverse Optical Properties.”



11 master’s students presented at ROBOMECH2025!

Eleven master’s students presented at the Robotics and Mechatronics Conference 2025 (ROBOMECH2025) in Yamagata. Through discussions with other researchers, they gained valuable feedback and new perspectives for their ongoing research.



Participated in a disassembly workshop hosted by Panasonic Holdings Corporation!

1st year master's students Taisuke Sato and Riina Matsushita, along with Associate Professor Arai, participated in a “Disassembly Workshop” hosted by Panasonic Holdings Corporation. They worked with industry experts and researchers from Osaka University, exchanging ideas through the hands-on disassembly of home appliances. It was an insightful and productive experience.

Associate Professor Arai gave a pitch at GTIE GAP DEMO DAY 2025!

Associate Professor Arai presented at GTIE GAP DEMO DAY 2025, introducing the project “Development of the World’s First Service Robot for Object Retrieval and Storage to Improve Well-being,” which was selected for the GTIE GAP Fund.

Welcome party for new members held!

On April 1, 2025, eight new undergraduate and one new master’s student joined the Arai Laboratory. A welcome party was held in the evening, featuring introductions and homemade dishes by senior members. It was a fun and friendly start to the new academic year!

We went on a two-day research lab trip to Mt. Mizugaki in Yamanashi Prefecture!

We visited Mt. Mizugaki in Yamanashi Prefecture as part of a two-day research lab trip. Under the guidance of Professor Arai, who has mountain climbing experience, we took on the challenge of mountain climbing. It was a refreshing break and an experience that we don't usually have in our research-filled days.



We held an intensive camp on transfer learning at TUS Seminar House!

Our fourth-year students organized a camp focused on transfer learning theory. It was a valuable opportunity to deepen our understanding through discussions.

These awards reflect their hard work and dedication, and we look forward to their continued growth.

At University Expo 2024, we exhibited a robot handling system equipped with a cost-efficient 3D measurement device. This system enables precise real-time measurement of object positions and shapes, allowing autonomous manipulation by robots. This technology is anticipated to contribute to efficient production processes across various industries.

Participated in the Inter-Laboratory Softball Tournament of Mechanical, Aerospace, and Systems Engineering on May 13, 2023!

The inter-laboratory softball tournament of the Department of Mechanical, Aerospace, and Systems Engineering was held for the first time in three years. Six members participated, forming a joint team with Asakura Laboratory. Although we finished in 9th place, the experience brought everyone together, and it became a great memory.



Spring Open Campus Held on April 23, 2023!

During the Spring Open Campus of the Faculty of Science and Technology, an information session for Arai Laboratory was held. Approximately 40 people attended, and we introduced the lifestyle up to the third year of 4th undergraduate studies and the research activities after joining our lab.



Welcome Party for New 4th Year Students Held on April 12, 2023!

The first gathering of Arai Laboratory was the welcome party for the newly assigned 4th year students. The conversation focused on the research they wanted to pursue in the future, and the bonds among members grew stronger.



New 4th Year Students Assigned to Arai Laboratory on April 3, 2023!

In the first year of the newly renamed Department of Mechanical, Aerospace, and Systems Engineering, seven new 4th year students were assigned to Arai Laboratory. Each of them has clear goals, and we have high hopes for their future research.

Graduation Ceremony Held on March 19, 2023!

The graduation ceremony for the Department of Mechanical Engineering was held, and three undergraduates attended to receive their degrees.

First Graduating Students of Arai Laboratory Presented Their Research on February 8, 2023!

The first group of graduating students from Arai Laboratory successfully completed their graduation research presentations. The three students were assigned to the lab in April 2022 and tackled various challenges. Despite starting their graduation research relatively late, they delivered an excellent presentation thanks to the dedicated support of Associate Professor Arai. Through this experience, they acquired knowledge and skills useful for their future, and gained invaluable experience in progressing with their peers.



Participated in the 34th Japan Manufacturing World at Tokyo Big Sight on June 24, 2022!

Japan Manufacturing World is held to contribute to short-term development, productivity improvement, quality enhancement, VA/VE, and cost reduction in manufacturing industries. It consists of nine exhibitions, and through participating in Japan Manufacturing World, we reaffirmed Japan's high level of technical expertise.
